Saw this earlier post - exactly the same problem - any ideas?

Thanks Andrew

I bought a Vodafone PAYG modem its a Huawei E160. I opened Mobile Partner and plugged in the modem. The modem is recognised, the network is displayed (Voda) and the signal strength shown. When I go to connections on the task bar I can see a 3G network option with the status OFF. In mobile partner I set up a profile made it the default and clicked on connect and get the same useful message – ‘error’.
My connect settings …
APN: pp.vodafone.co.uk
Access number: *99#
Username: web
Password: web
I’m using Static and CHAP
If I plug my modem into my Vista PC it connects instantly so there’s no fault with network. Any ideas?

This has been a heavensent. You are the only who went to the root of the problem ive been trying to solve with the incredibly useless Linpus Lite on my Acer AspireOne netbook.. (required the update, before it was 3g enabled)

Though by time i read it ive already installed KUKI ( a Ubuntu based distruibution specifically for acer aspire one netbooks) after many unseccessful atempts at connecting and configuring via gnome-ppp and wvdial as root. Those for whom the update does NOT work or the USB modem is not recognised (acer aspire one does NOT come with an inbuilt modem and is 3g enabled)

thankfully the latest version has it enabled according to the internet. For a NETBOOK not being 3g enabled is stupid. Also, linpus lite (actually a fedora 8 based distribution and OLD!) is sh**. change to easypeasy, puppy, ubuntu netbook remix or KUKI (its pronounced "cookie"). Ubuntu 0.8 onwards has 3g enabled and you cna plug in Huawei dongles or 3g and have it recognised.

the good news is i can have hours of bliss in the Advanced (deep hack) mode, playing around,.. :)

Im so ectastically happy :D

Hi

Really need some help. I have the Acer Aspire One 110 and it's the Linux version.

I can't get on the net at all. I have a T-mobile dongle and when I connect via the usb it pops up saying upload autorun. I click on this but nothing happens.

When I went into orange to ask about their dongle, they said I need to have Windows on there.

Surely there must be an easier way. Please help!!!!!
